Does Grounding or Earthing Fit With a Christian Worldview?

Taking a look at the practice of grounding through scripture and creationism.

In short

Grounding is the practice of making physical contact with the Earth's surface on the understanding that this is beneficial for your health. From a Christian point of view, it seems reasonable to check whether that simple connection might have real physiological benefits as some claim. After all, the Bible presents creation as intentionally designed and packed with good things meant for our flourishing and well-being. Could the practice of grounding be one of them?

God's Creation is “Very Good”

The practice known as grounding or earthing—having direct physical contact with the Earth’s surface, such as walking on grass or connecting to the earth through earthing products—has drawn growing interest for its claimed health benefits in recent times.

From a Christian perspective, the question is not whether this modern wellness claim is scientifically airtight, but whether the underlying idea coheres with a biblical view of creation. Scripture presents the natural world as intentionally designed by God for human flourishing, and the intricate electrical systems that are part of the Earth and the human body, appear to fit comfortably within that framework.

Genesis 1 repeatedly declares the goodness of what God made both in the creation of the Earth and the cosmos, and with man himself.

“God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.”
Genesis 1:31

Creation Designed for Human Flourishing

The Earth is not a neutral creation; it is a very intentionally designed habitat prepared to benefit those whom he loves. Psalm 104:14–15 says that he “makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate—bringing forth food from the earth: wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts.”

The created order itself is testimony to intentional design so that his beloved are blessed.

Human beings, too, are not exempt from his masterful creation. He designed our bodies to operate through complex electrochemical processes. Nerve signals, cellular communication, and the maintenance of electrical potential across membranes is well-documented biological science (read about my discover of the body’s electrical systems through my son's collapse at sports training).

The Earth itself possesses a natural electrical field and a negative surface charge. From a Christian worldview, it is somewhat consistent to expect that the Designer who engineered both systems, could well have arranged beneficial interactions between them.

If sunlight provides vitamin D for our bodies to manufacture, if the ground produces plants that provide nutrition and medicine, cotton for clothes, and wood our houses, and if the clean air and water that the Lord made, sustains our lives, why should we exclude the planet’s electrical properties from the list of potential benefits?

In fact, Christians should really be asking:

“What other benefits has God given to us through his creation that we haven’t yet discovered?”

The Goodness of Direct Engagement with Creation

Scripture frequently invites people into direct contact with nature as a means of seeking him. Jesus himself withdrew to solitary places outdoors to pray. The psalmist contemplates the heavens and the works of God’s hands (Psalm 8; Psalm 19).

Agricultural imagery and land-based rhythms permeate the Old Testament, from the Sabbath rest of the land to the simple pleasure of sitting under one’s own vine and fig tree (Micah 4:4).

Earth’s crammed with heaven, and every common bush a fire with God; but only he who sees takes off his shoes, the rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.”- Elizabeth Barrett Browning

These patterns suggest that ordinary, embodied interaction with the Earth is not incidental, but part of the good life the Father has provided for his children.

Creation Benefits Without Nature Worship

None of this requires treating grounding as a New Age or quasi-spiritual practice. Christians affirm secondary causes: God ordinarily works through the reliable patterns he has built into creation.

A farmer trusts the soil’s amazing fertility without denying that God provides the increase (1 Corinthians 3:7). In the same way, recognizing possible physiological benefits from contact with the Earth’s surface need not slide into nature worship or alternative spirituality as I have heard some Christians suggest. Sarah Boots has written a well-balanced article on this.

This is where we, as Christians need discernment.

The devil is very happy for us to treat what the Lord has made as something to worship, but he is equally happy if we refuse to acknowledge the seemingly never-ending benefits the Lord has provided through his creation.

What Have We Yet to Discover?

Critics sometimes dismiss grounding as unproven or overly speculative. Yet there is significant literature that is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore (note 1). And anecdotally. there are significant numbers people who testify that they have received health benefits by having their bodies connected to the Earth more frequently.

The Christian already expects creation to be rich with benefits we have not yet fully catalogued. Proverbs 25:2 says:

“It is the glory of God to conceal things, and the glory of kings to search them out.”

We should keep searching them out.

God called it “very good,” and we should expect more of that good to be discovered as time goes on.

Exploring how the body’s electrical systems interact with the planet’s electrical systems is one more instance of that search.

A Christian Perspective on Grounding

The same God who designed the human body with electrochemical processes also fashioned the Earth with its own electrical characteristics and declared the whole arrangement very good.

Far from being foreign to biblical faith, attentive engagement with the physical world—including simple practices that reconnect us to the ground beneath our feet—can be a quiet acknowledgement of the Creator’s wonderful. generosity.

The Earth already supplies countless gifts for daily life. It is no stretch to believe that its electrical properties may be among them.
